Mathematics 9

Course code: MMA--09--

Recommended Prerequisite: Completion of Mathematics 8 or Introduction to Math 9 with teacher’s recommendation.

The Mathematics 9 course is intended to build on Mathematics 8 skills and introduce further skills needed for completion of high school mathematics.

Topics: Algebraic Manipulation and Solving Algebraic Expressions; Rational Numbers;

Data Analysis and Probability; Geometry and Similarity; Area and Volume of Two and Three Dimensional Objects; Trigonometry.

Math 9 prepares students for Foundations and Pre-Calculus 10 and Workplace Math 10.

Mathematics 9 is an academic pathway for students wishing to move on to any of the Math 10 courses. Students are expected to complete between 15 to 30  minutes of math homework each school night, although some students who have struggled with math historically, may require more time.  The pace of this 5-month course can be difficult to manage, for students with lower understanding coming from Mathematics 8. It is highly recommended that a Learning Strategies block and/or a tutor be utilized, should students need additional time to complete the practice work. Students can also consider taking LINEAR Math 9. This allows students to have two semesters to learn.
