Curious about how kids become kids? Why they behave the way they do? Then you may be interested in Child Development and Caregiving. This course will explore child development from birth to age 12. W will learn about kids’ cognitive (learning), social, physical and emotional development, including changes in these theories over time and cultural influences on these theories. We will also investigate the role of play in human development and learning as well as the nutritional needs for children and how these practices are externally influenced. Caregiving styles and how they impact child development will also be explored. The format of the class will include class discussion, group and individual projects, fieldtrips and hands-on learning opportunities. Student will have the opportunity to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways through modalities of their choice (videos, slide shows, presentations etc).
