English Language Arts 9 will challenge students to access information and ideas from a variety of sources, and evaluate their relevance, accuracy, and reliability. Students will be taught to apply appropriate strategies to comprehend written, oral, and visual texts, and to recognize and appreciate how different features, forms, and genres of texts reflect different purposes. Core Competencies in English Language Arts 9 include communicating effectively, thinking critically, and creating personal and social connections to written work. Students will explore poetry, short stories, and novels while learning to discover deeper meanings and literary devices found within those written pieces. This course provides students with the skills to enroll in Language Arts 10.
