Required prerequisite: 86% in English 11 (students below 86% must complete an English assessment administered by Esquimalt High/Camosun)
This course develops core critical thinking, reading, research, and writing skills transferable across all academic disciplines. Students practice a range of academic writing forms, including summary, critical analysis, and research based writing. Through the analysis of rhetorical strategies, discourse, and style, students build self-awareness of inquiry, critique, and reflection.
Offered in partnership with Camosun College, this dual credit course allows students to earn credit in English Studies 12 and English 151 (Academic Writing Strategies) while experiencing the rigour of a post-secondary course within a high school semester. Instruction is shared between a Camosun College instructor and an Esquimalt English 12 teacher. Upon successful completion, students receive both high school graduation and post-secondary credit.
Please note: Students wishing to register for a dual credit course must meet with the Careers team to receive an application package.
