This course is required for grade 9 students accepted into Esquimalt’s Challenge program.
Integrated Studies 9 offers students an opportunity for academic enrichment within the Challenge Program. The course is a cross-curricular opportunity to engage students in serious inquiry into both well-established and emergent subject areas that may not be addressed in other subject classes. Units of study will integrate multiple disciplines and ways of knowing, thereby allowing students to engage in a complex examination of who and how they are in the world.
This course is comprised of multiple units of study, all or some of which may be delivered during the semester. All units seek to enhance students’ academic prowess and provide students with a broad base of skills and subject knowledge which may be applicable across future studies, careers, and life pursuits.
Units may consist of (but are not limited to): Philosophical Thinking, Global Citizenship, Mental Health Literacy, Fine Arts & Media Studies, Indigenous Studies with Land Based Learning, concluding with a passion project and learning fair.
